As I prepare to embark on Module II of the Harvard Advanced Management Program which is on campus, I'm excited for the experiences that await me, despite the bittersweet feeling of leaving behind my family and furry friend Sunshine. In my preparations, I've been honing my study skills, familiarizing myself with living groups, reading case studies and engaging in personal coaching sessions to prepare myself for the intensive workload that lies ahead.

Study Skills - In a recent study skills webinar, led by Genet Jeanjean, a teacher and coach at HBS, I learned valuable tips and tricks for reading cases efficiently, using methods like the Genet's Case Study Method, the rule of 3, and the claim-reason-evidence-argument structure to frame responses and arguments during class discussions. To further simplify complex problems, I plan to use mind mapping techniques. Genet’s case study reading method involves reading with purpose, starting with questions, reviewing titles, introductions, and conclusions, and then spending time reading the entire case.
Living Groups - As part of the program, I will also be living with seven other individuals, each from diverse cultures, industries, and professional backgrounds, to navigate the workload together. We will engage in case preparation and Living Group meetings, facilitated by a coach, to discuss and debate the cases we've read.
Personal Coaching - In addition, I have received personal coaching from Suzanne Boulos, an executive coach at HBS, who helped me to identify my personal values and strengths, including resilience, hard work, inspiration, compassion, truth, and empathy. The session was very helpful in gaining a better understanding of myself.
Meeting Classmates - During a recent "getting ready for Campus" webinar, I had the opportunity to meet Leonie Dunn, an impressive classmate who is the first female Deputy Governor of the Bank of Namibia, and is helping to modernize the financial system and assist with the country's economic recovery. Unfortunately, one of our classmates, had to cancel his participation due to the devastating earthquake in Turkey.
Whatsapp community - We now have a WhatsApp community, and the sense of community is growing stronger as we provide support and encouragement to one another. We are helping each other stay calm and focused as we prepare for the demanding Module II. Evan Thomas Aldrich, one of my classmates, reminded us that we are all in this together and encouraged us to do our best, spend time with family, and stay safe during our travels. His words were a powerful reminder that in the face of challenges, we can find strength and comfort in our community.
I'm fully prepared to make the most of every moment during this exciting journey, both personally and professionally.
