During Week 2 of Module 2, one of the most memorable experiences was attending Prof. Cynthia Montgomery's Strategy class.
Over the course of the module, we delved into multiple case studies at AMP.
However, the Narayana Hrudayalaya case study in Prof. Montgomery’s class stood out to me the most. This multi-specialty hospital chain was founded by Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty in Bangalore, India in 2000 with a mission to provide affordable healthcare to people from all walks of life. Through its innovative healthcare models, Narayana Hrudayalaya has grown rapidly and become one of the largest healthcare providers in India, with over 20 hospitals and clinics across the country. Its success lies in providing high-quality healthcare services at affordable prices, and it continues to expand internationally to provide accessible healthcare to people worldwide.
We analyzed their business model using the Value-based Strategy approach. This exercise challenged us to think critically about creating value for customers.
One of the most unforgettable experiences of the course was when I was invited to go up to the blackboard and explain the concept of Value-based Strategy and how it applies to Narayana Hrudayalaya's strategy to the class. Although nerve-wracking, the feeling of sharing my insights with my peers and receiving their feedback was incredible. I am grateful to Prof. Cynthia Montgomery, the Timken Professor of Business Administration and the new faculty chair of AMP, for encouraging me and providing this incredible opportunity. As a result, the framework and the business model are etched in my mind, and I loved every minute of it.
The Narayana Hrudayalaya case study not only taught me about the importance of adopting innovative strategies to create social impact, but it also inspired me to have a greater impact with my non-profit foundation, safetyclub.org. Our foundation has been operational for over 10 years, with a mission to prevent child abuse and empower children with safety skills. So far, we have been able to empower over 200,000 children with safety skills, but after being exposed to the Narayana Hrudayalaya case study, we are now more motivated than ever to scale our impact over the next 5 years. This case study reinforced the importance of pursuing a meaningful mission and using innovative strategies to achieve social impact, which we plan to apply to our own work with safetyclub.org.
The personal coaching sessions with Suzanne Boulos were truly transformative and one of the most valuable parts of the program for me. Suzanne's expertise and guidance helped me to navigate the results of my 360 assessment and understand my leadership profile in a new light. This process not only gave me a boost of confidence, but it also helped me to set meaningful goals for my personal leadership journey.
I am grateful to my manager, former managers, peers, and direct reports for their valuable input in the assessment process. Their feedback was instrumental in helping me identify areas for improvement and build on my strengths.
I feel more confident and equipped to tackle new challenges and continue to grow as a leader. Additionally, I got the chance to discuss my results with my personal board. Their insights and perspectives provided me with a fresh perspective on my leadership profile, and their feedback was truly invaluable. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from their experiences and perspectives and incorporate their insights into my personal leadership journey. Overall, the coaching sessions with Suzanne Boulos and the support of my personal board made for a truly transformational experience in the program.
Prof. Montgomery and Vicki Good, the Portfolio Director, AMP organized a special women's luncheon for the Women of AMP 204. As the first woman chair of AMP, Prof. Montgomery shared her inspiring journey, which set the tone for an empowering experience.
45 women from different countries participated in the AMP program for the first time in its history, a significant step towards achieving gender balance in executive education. The Program leadership is committed to increasing female participation further, providing more women with access to this transformative educational experience.
The luncheon provided a unique opportunity for women in the group to connect with each other, share their personal and professional experiences, and learn from one another. We discussed a wide range of topics, from work-life balance to career development and personal growth, creating an open and supportive environment.
One of the most valuable aspects of the luncheon was the chance to connect with my female peers on a deeper level and gain a better understanding of the unique challenges that women face in the workplace. As the workshop drew to a close, we offered to support each other in areas where we had expertise, laying the foundation for a strong and supportive sisterhood. Overall, the Women's Luncheon was a powerful and uplifting experience, providing an opportunity to connect with other women in the program and establish meaningful relationships that will continue to support us long after the program has ended.
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to watch the Harvard vs. Princeton basketball game, which was an incredibly high-energy and exciting experience.
As the week drew to a close, our learning group celebrated with a delicious sushi dinner, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere after a busy week of learning.
The South East Asian community in AMP visited a local Indian restaurant in Boston, seeking to connect with food that reminded them of home away from home. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore new flavors and connect with each other over a shared love of food, creating a sense of warmth and camaraderie that will stay with us long after the program has ended.
We were also fortunate to experience Boston's beautiful winter season and enjoy the snow that covered the city. It was a magical experience to witness the snowfall and explore the city's winter wonderland.
